A new update is now available!

Stroll Garden is a charming and addictive game of equilibrium. The objective is to make the garden on each board spring to life by enclosing every koi pond and stroll path. Ranging over three difficulty levels, the number of possible boards would take a lifetime to complete! While most players will be able to move from Easy to Apprentice with no problem, only a true zen master should dare to attempt a Master board.

Latest Update: April 6, 2009

We’ve done a major refresh of the graphics for Stroll Garden, including the addition of 3 new tile sets–one for each season. We’ve also added a musical score and an ambient nature track for each season–this should help aid concentration on those especially tricky boards.

Another great new feature in this update is fortune cookies! After you’ve completed a board you’ll receive a cookie that you can crack open and read the fortune inside.

That’s not all, though. We’ve also added a sweet new feature called petal drop. Once you’ve completed a board and read your fortune, you can drag your finger across the screen to shower your winning board with cherry blossom petals. We’ve gotten a great response from our testers on this feature and we’re sure you’ll find it enjoyable and hypnotic.

Stroll Garden is a puzzle game requiring the player to rearrange tiles to find an equilibrium of paths and ponds. Equilibrium requires that each edge of each tile meets with a similar edge on the neighboring tiles.

Any 2 tiles can be swapped to achieve equilibrium.

The final rule is that all boundaries tiles must have grass along the edge of the screen.

We here at downfallout worked long and hard to make Super Political Dodgeball a stellar and timely release and we truly believed it would have been a success. Finding out that our work would never be released was incredibly surprising and disappointing, to say the least. We sincerely hope that someday, Apple will change their application submission policy to be more transparent and accommodating to developers.

We’d like to thank all of our friends and beta testers for loading the game on their phones and giving us such great feedback. Now that the game won’t be released, you have the added incentive of having a rare jewel on your iPhones. ; )

Description of Super Political Dodgeball for iTunes App Store

Below is the description we submitted to accompany the game in the App Store:

The year is 2008. The US presidential election has ended in an unprecedented and statistically confounding perfect tie. After weeks of wrangling and exhausted debate, the US Supreme Court takes the suggestion of Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia and orders that Republican candidate John McCain and Democratic candidate Barack Obama be immediately flash-cloned (a process recently invented by Senator Byrd). The clones are then to participate in a prison-rules match of dodgeball to determine who will be the next president.

Players can determine the election by taking control of their candidate’s clones and guiding them to victory. Super Political Dodgeball, set in various locations around Washington D.C., is the first and only action sports game for the iPhone to feature two former–and at least one future–US presidents, cloning, flaming dodgeballs, innovative analog controls, sweet sound effects and…did we mention cloning? Awesome.

What you missed

First and foremost, we designed Political Dodgeball to be a fun and comical throwback to some of our favorite 8-bit “sports” games from the NES and arcade era. We also designed the game to be a voter registration tool. Through an affiliation with Rock the Vote, users could access a section of our website from the opening menu of the game and fill out a voter registration form. We also designed the game to be completely bipartisan. John McCain played from the right of the screen and Barack Obama played from the left. Aside from those points, both sides were exactly the same.

The game was “Super” in that it was the sequel to our original hit from 2004 for cell phones and PDAs, Political Dodgeball. Guess who the players in that game were.

Interface

How to…

Move

Super Political Dodgeball uses a virtual analog control for character movement. To use this control, rest your left thumb on the center circle. This is the default position at which your character is at rest. To move your character, just drag your thumb in the direction you’d like to move. How far from the center you move your thumb will determine your character’s speed.

Throw

To throw the ball at your opponent, move your left thumb on the movement control in the direction you’d like to throw and tap the ‘THROW’ button. (duh)

Catch

You can catch the ball when it’s thrown at you by tapping the blue “CATCH/JUMP” button at just the right moment. You’ve got to be quick, though, or else you’ll catch the ball right in the electoral college.

Jump

You can jump when you’re holding the ball by tapping the blue button.

Power Play

Throw Strength

At the lower center of the play screen you’ll notice a fluctuating strength meter. Try to make your throws when this meter is in the red to maximize the throw strength.

Poll Power

Each player receives poll power when they hit their opponent with the ball. The higher your Poll Power, the more dangerous your dodgeballs will become.
